What is the Shariah ruling about Urs?

الجوابُ حامِدا ًو مُصلیِّا ً

On the death anniversaries of the elders, their disciples and devotees organize gatherings and they call it as “Urs”, but there is no evidence of celebrating these types of days during the first three centuries of Islam, acclaimed to be filled with all good deeds (i.e. the era of the Companions and the Tabi’in and the Thab’ut Tabi’in). Therefore, it is necessary to avoid celebrating it as a proven act and a cause of reward.

عن عائشة – رضی اللہ عنہا - قالت: قال رسول الله - صلى الله عليه وسلم - : ’’من أحدث في أمرنا هذا ما ليس منه فهو رد‘‘ (1/ 51)
