Eating rice with Hands, is it Sunnath?

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmathullahi Wa Barakathuhu

Mufthi Sahib Eating rice with Hands, is it Sunnah? As per my knowledge, it was not in Our Prophet ﷺ period. Rice came in Hazrat Umar رضی اللہ عنہ

الجوابُ حامِدا ًو مُصلیِّا ً

Rice or any other food, if could be eaten by hands, it is Sunnah to eat by hands although it is also correct to eat with spoons due to necessity. As for the questioners view that, rice was not available during the period of Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, it is wrong and baseless.
