How can the clothes of a Muslim be according to the Quran and Sunnat

What does the scholars of Islam have to say about the following issue? How can the clothes of a muslim be according to the principles of the Quran and Sunnat, and what are its distinctive features? Furthermore, is it permissible in the Shari’ah to wear double collar shirts, shirts, pants, pajamas and black clothing?

الجوابُ حامِدا ًو مُصلیِّا ً

The Shari’ah has not ordained any specific style of dressing for muslims to wear, but it has taught us some principles and limitations about dressing to which all muslims must adhere to. These principles are: the clothes must cover the parts of one’s body which is essential to be covered, dressing like the disbelievers, transgressors and prideful people, and especially for men; wearing silk clothing, dressing like women and wearing clothes that has red colors (like that of saffron) are not permissible. Therefore, if one’s dress is in accordance to these principals, then his dress is proper according to the Shari’ah. However, it is better and more virtuous to adopt the style of dressing that has been established in the sunnat or that which has been adopted by the pious and god-fearing people of our nation. Whereas, shirts and pants are originally the dress of the non-muslims and wearing such clothing will cause one to appear like the disbelievers and transgressors, hence one should avoid adopting such style of dressing. Moreover, it is permissible to wear black clothing and it is also okay to wear pajamas. But on certain days, it is Makrooh (disliked) to wear black clothing because it causes one to resemble one of the deviant sects, hence it should be avoided.
