Is shaving the beard a form of disbelief?
Assalamu Alaikum
My question is whether not having beard is Kufr, and if a Muslim does not keep beard does he indulge in Kufr, and what type of act is it to shave off the beard, and please let me know whatever rulings in connetion with beard
الجوابُ حامِدا ًو مُصلیِّا ً
According to the light of the authentic Ahadith, the consensus of the Umma, and the unanimous view of the four Schools of Thought (i.e. Hanafi, Safi'ee, Maliki and Hambali), it is Wajib for every Muslim male to keep beard, and shaving it off entirely or trimming it shorter than a fist's length is unlawful and Haram. Keeping the beard was not only the practice of the Holy Prophet Muhammadﷺ, but also the practice all of the prophets and messengers before him. However, although shaving the beard is extremely sinful and contrary to the practice of all of the prophets, it does not cause the perpetrator to not fall into disbelief.
