Is snapping the fingers Sunnah?

What is the view of the scholars of Islam regarding the following issue?
There is a scholar in Burma who has mentioned in one of his discourses that it is Sunnah to snap the fingers. It is also his habit to snap his fingers, and he orders those in his gathering the snap their fingers as well. He also mentioned in his discourse that the messenger of Allah did it himself. My question is that is this statement of his correct? Is this action Sunnah or not? Did the messenger of Allah himself do this or not?

الجوابُ حامِدا ًو مُصلیِّا ً

Snapping the fingers is not such a habitual or common practice of that the messenger of Allah that he would do it in all of his gatherings or order those in his presence to do such. However, there is one narration in which it is mentioned that once the messenger of Allah mentioned some of the close friends of Allah to those present in his gathering, and after sensing envy in those present, he snapped his fingers. If snapping the fingers is done in any similar situation, then there is no problem for doing such as per Shari’ah.
