Ruling on the Recitation of the Qur’an by One Who Makes Serious Major Errors in Recitation

Respected Mufti Sahib, Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh!
In our madrasa, there are some students who are not Huffaz (memorizers of the Qur’an). Nevertheless, when they recite the Noble Qur’an, they often make many mistakes, and at times, they make very serious (major) errors. Is it permissible for them to recite the Qur’an in this condition, or should they first learn from a Qari and then recite? What is the ruling on their recitation in this state? Kindly provide a well-evidenced answer thank you. Was-Salam.

الجوابُ حامِدا ًو مُصلیِّا ً

Such students must correct their Tajweed under the guidance of an expert Qari. However, while learning, they may continue to recite and should not stop their recitation.

مأخَذُ الفَتوی

و في صحيح مسلم: عن عائشة، قالت: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: «الماهر بالقرآن مع السفرة الكرام البررة، والذي يقرأ القرآن ويتتعتع فيه، وهو عليه شاق، له أجران». (1/ 549)۔
و في شرح صحيح مسلم للنووي: ويتتعتع فيه وهو عليه شاق له أجران". (إلی قوله) وأما الذي يتتعتع فيه فهو الذي يتردد في تلاوته لضعف حفظه فله أجران: أجر بالقراءة وأجر بتتعته في تلاوته ومشقته اھ (19/ 178)۔
و في فتح الملهم : قوله يتتعتع فيه أی یتردد و يتلب عليه لسانه ويقف فى قراءته لعدم مهارته والتعتعة في الكلام التردد فيه من حصر أو وعى يقال تعتع لسانه إذا توقّف في الكلام ولم يطعه لسانه قوله وهو عليه شاق أى والحال أن القرآن في حصوله أوتردد فيه عليه شديد يصيبه منه مشقة اھ (۵/ ۲۳۵)۔
