Ruling on Qadha and Kaffarah After Breaking the Fast for a Medical Test

What do the esteemed scholars say about a person who, in order to complete a medical test required for traveling abroad, drank milk while fasting? Will this be considered a valid excuse in Shari'ah? And in this case, is kaffarah (expiation) required or not? If kaffarah is required, then what is it?

الجوابُ حامِدا ًو مُصلیِّا ً

Breaking the fast solely for the purpose of completing a medical test is not permissible. Therefore, a person who broke the fast while observing it only for the mentioned test will be required to both make up (qadha) the fast and offer expiation (kaffarah). The kaffarah is to fast for two consecutive months. If the person is unable to fast, then he must feed sixty poor people two meals each.

مأخَذُ الفَتوی

کما فی الفتاوى الهندية: فالصائم إذا أكل الخبز أو الأطعمة أو الأشربة أو الأدهان أو الألبان أو أكل إهليلجة أو مسكا أو زعفرانا أو كافورا أو غالية عليه القضاء والكفارة عندنا هكذا في فتاوى قاضي خان اھ (1/ 205)۔
وفيه۔ا ايضا : كفارة الفطر وكفارة الظهار واحدة 1 وهي عتق رقبة مؤمنة أو كافرة فإن لم يقدر على العتق فعليه صيام شهرين متتابعين وإن لم يستطع فعليه إطعام ستين مسكينا كل مسكين صاعا من تمر أو شعير أو نصف صاع من حنطة اھ (1/ 215)۔
وفى الدر المختار : فصل في العوارض المبيحة لعدم الصوم وقد ذكر المصنف منها خمسة وبقي الإكراه وخوف هلاك أو نقصان عقل ولو بعطش أو جوع شديد ولسعة حية (لمسافر) سفرا شرعيا ولو بمعصية (أو حامل أو مرضع) (الى قوله) (أو مريض خاف الزيادة) لمرضه وصحيح خاف المرض، (2/ 421) واللہ اعلم بالصواب
