In 2026, how much wealth must a person possess for Qurbani to become obligatory?"
Qurbani (animal sacrifice) is obligatory upon every person on whom Sadaqat al-Fitr is obligatory. This means that during the days of Qurbani, a person owns 7.5 tolas of gold, or 52.5 tolas of silver, or cash, trade goods, or surplus belongings equal in value to either of these amounts.
Furthermore, even if these assets individually do not reach the nisab, but the combined value of one's gold, silver, cash, trade goods, and surplus possessions (items not generally needed throughout the year) equals or exceeds the value of 52.5 tolas of silver, then Qurbani becomes obligatory upon that person according to Islamic law.
Since the price of silver changes over time, the exact monetary amount required for Qurbani also varies accordingly and it is not possible to specify a fixed monetary amount as the nisab. However, during the days of Eid al-Adha, one can determine the nisab in monetary terms by checking the current market value of 52.5 tolas of silver.
