I live in Hamilton, Canada. Here, some Muslims have organized a summer vacation camp with the support of a church, which is held under the church’s supervision. The camp has no religious or sectarian agenda — its stated purpose is simply to mix Muslim youth with non-Muslim youth to promote mutual trust and understanding in today’s environment. The church has provided considerable funding for this project, coming from sources that are non-religious in nature. The church is also willing to allow the activities to continue in any manner, even if there are objections to the use of the church building or if there are any objectionable elements in it.I would like to know: From an Islamic perspective, are such activities — conducted under the supervision of a church objectionable?
Programs of this nature are an attempt to weaken the beliefs of Muslims and to remove the natural aversion to disbelief (kufr) from their hearts, which is disliked and prohibited in Islam. It is obligatory to avoid such programs and such behavior.
