Feeding of pig feed for fowls/poultry chicks

Assalamu Alaikum!
Based on the article published in the last page of the daily newspaper "JANG" of 6 September 2007 about the Supreme Courts hearing on feeding of pig feed for fowls/poultry chicks, please inform whether chicken has become Haram or no? We have given up eating chicken due to the benefit of the doubt but people, despite reading the article on our request stil do not believe. Please guide.

الجوابُ حامِدا ًو مُصلیِّا ً

Even if the poultry feed fed on fowls, birds/chicks etc is mixed with any Haram substance, the flesh of the bird does not become Haram for eating such feed. However, after being fed if the flesh emits any stink, under such a circumstance it becomes Makrooh e Thahreemi to eat such flesh. Therefore, before slaughtering, it is essential to confine such a bird for few days and feed clean feed until the stink dies out (which happens normally in three days).

مأخَذُ الفَتوی

ففي الدر المختار: (و) كره (لحمهما) أي لحم الجلالة والرمكة، وتحبس الجلالة حتى يذهب نتن لحمها اھ (6/ 340)
و في حاشية ابن عابدين (رد المحتار): ولو أكلت النجاسة وغيرها بحيث لم ينتن لحمها حلت. اهـ. (1/ 223)
و في الفتاوى الهندية: ولا يكره أكل الدجاج المخلي وإن كان يتناول النجاسة لأنه لا يغلب عليه أكل النجاسة بل يخلطها بغيرها وهو الحب والأفضل أن يحبس الدجاج حتى يذهب ما في بطنها من النجاسة كذا في البدائع اھ (5/ 290)
و في بدائع الصنائع: ولا يكره أكل الدجاج المحلى وإن كان يتناول النجاسة لأنه لا يغلب عليه أكل النجاسة بل يخلطها بغيرها وهو الحب فيأكل ذا وذا اھ (5/ 40)
