Respected scholar! I would like to know whether it is necessary to perform a sacrifice for ‘Aqiqah, or is it also permissible that I purchase meat from a butcher’s shop and distribute it among people? Alternatively, if I go to a butcher and have a goat slaughtered there, and then pay the price for whatever amount of meat is obtained, will this method be valid? Kindly guide me regarding the ruling of ‘Aqiqah.
The act of ‘Aqiqah is fulfilled only by slaughtering an animal. Merely purchasing meat and distributing it—whether raw or cooked—or serving it to others does not fulfill the Sunnah of ‘Aqiqah.
