Can a woman travel with a child who is close to the age of maturity?

Can a woman travel with a child who is close to the age of maturity?

My brother is 12 years old. He is also quite mature for his age. Can we travel with him as a Mahram?

الجوابُ حامِدا ًو مُصلیِّا ً

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
If the questioner’s brother has reached the age of sexual maturity (بالغ), or is quite mature and capable even though he has not reached that age (i.e. that of sexual maturity), then it would be permissible to travel with him as a Mahram.
And Allah knows best.

وفي الهندية: ومنها المحرم للمرأة شابة كانت او عجوزا اذا كانت بينہا وبين مكة مسيرة ثلاثة ايام هكذافى المحيط وان كان اقل من ذلك صحت بخير محرم كذا فى البدائع والمحرم الزوج ومن لا يجوز مناكحتها على التأبيد بقرابة أو رضاع أو مصاهرة وكذا فى الخلاصة ويشترط ان يكون مأمونا عاقلا بالغا كان او عبد کا فراکان او مسلما (الی قوله) وكذا في محيط السرخسی : والمراہق كالبالغ، اھ (٢١٩/٢)-
