Can a boy have a friendship with a girl

Can a boy have a friendship with a girl whereas this friendship is through mobile messages? What is the ruling of this friendship if it is within the boundary of ethics and morality?

الجوابُ حامِدا ًو مُصلیِّا ً

It is prohibited in the beautiful etiquette taught in Islam, to adopt frankness and to indulge in talks without a Shar'i need between Non-Mehrems (opposite sex who are not prohibited in marriage as per Shari'a). Hence it is necessary for the questioner as well, to try to adopt excellent morality and to make arrangements for early marriage, in case he is a bachelor, with consultation and permission of his parents in order to safeguard from evil behavior and involving in the aforesaid impermissible and futile activities.
