If a husband and wife doesn’t have intercourse for a month

If a husband and wife doesn’t have intercourse for a month, will this cause divorce to occur? In Islam, how many times in a month is one ordered to have intercourse with his wife?

الجوابُ حامِدا ًو مُصلیِّا ً

Spouses not having intercourse with each other for a long period of time doesn’t have any effect on their marriage. Also, there is no limit as per Shari’ah, as to how much spouses should have intercourse with each other. According to their personal needs, they can establish marital relations as much as they want in a month.

مأخَذُ الفَتوی

لما فی الشامیۃ: مطلب فی فسخ النکاح بالعجز عن النفقۃ وبالغیبۃ: قولہ (ولا یفرق بینہما بعجزہ عنہا) أی غائبا کان أو حاضرا (قولہ بأنواعہا) وہی مأکول وملبوس ومسکن ح (إلی قولہ) (قولہ وبتضررہا بغیبتہ) أی تضرر المرأۃ بعدم وصول النفقۃ بسبب غیبتہ وفی بعض النسخ وبتعذرہا بغیبتہ أی تعذر النفقۃ وہی أظہر وہذا مقابل قولہ ولا بعدم إیفائہ حقہا۔ (ج۳، ص۵۹۰) واللہ اعلم بالصواب
