Charity

Is it necessary to give charity? Should a person give 200,000 rupees in charity or should he help his own brother whose life runs on debts and sufferings?

الجوابُ حامِدا ًو مُصلیِّا ً

It should be clear that helping any needy relative financially without expecting any return also falls under the category of charity. Instead of giving charity to common people, if cooperated with one's needy brother or any blood relative, it will be double rewarded. While giving charity, one should give priority to one's relatives, however, if there is no needy among the relatives, then one can give to the neighbors and common people.

مأخَذُ الفَتوی

کما فی مشکا ۃ المصابیح:"وعن سلمان بن عامر قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: " الصدقة على المسكين صدقة وهي على ذي الرحم ثنتان: صدقة وصلة ". رواه أحمد والترمذي والنسائي وابن ماجه والدارمي".(کتاب الآداب،باب افضل الصدقۃ،ج:1ص:604،ط:المکتب الاسلامی)۔
وفی الدرالمختار:"وقيد بالولاد لجوازه لبقية الأقارب كالإخوة والأعمام والأخوال الفقراء بل هم أولى؛ لأنه صلة وصدقة".(کتاب الزکوۃ ،باب مصرف الزکوۃ،ج:2،ص:346، ط:سعید)۔
