Performing Hajj without Mehram

Is companionship of 'mahram' (husband, father, son etc) is as necessary for women to go to Hajj or Umra as it was in the past. Now the travel . has become much more fast, secure and comfortable, and women alone can easy make this travel.

الجوابُ حامِدا ًو مُصلیِّا ً

Yes! Just like in the past, in the present times as well, a woman must have a mahram (unmarriageable male relative) as her companion during her travel for Hajj, Umra, or for whatever reason she may undertake a journey that amounts to 78km or more (شرعی مسافت).

And Allah knows best
