Removing the face covering due to illness.

Assalamu aalikum, I am a hijabi and I have been one since 2023. I've noticed my hijab causes me significant mental health issues, like low self esteem, social anxiety and feeling insecure or having no self worth. It also recently started to cause me health issues that I don't know if it's related to the mental health issues or not but it causes me breathing problems when I wrap it around my neck or cover my neck with anything really. I tried solving both problems with changing hijab styles, materials and colors... Still feeling the same way. My question is can I take the hijab off for my mental health? Or am I not allowed to and should just keep wearing it? Keep in mind I tried everything in my will power but my mental health just keeps worsening with it on. Thank you.

It should be made clear that hijab and purdah are among the commands of Allah Almighty, and their obligation has been explicitly stated in clear texts of the Qur’an and Hadith in many places. Therefore, it is not correct to consider hijab as a cause of mental or physical problems; rather, such thinking stems from a sense of inferiority. Hence, the questioner should free herself from this feeling of inferiority and observe hijab with complete dignity, honor, and confidence, without feeling any shame, deficiency, or social pressure in doing so.”
