Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh!
After extending greetings, I would like to request a fatwa: If a person wishes to help someone, and for that purpose deposits their own money in an interest-based bank, intending to use the interest (profit) received each month to support that needy person — for example, covering their expenses regularly — would this be permissible? Kindly issue a fatwa regarding this matter.
It is absolutely not permissible to help someone using the interest earned by depositing money in a conventional bank. Even in such a case, the sin of engaging in interest-based transactions will still apply. Therefore, one must avoid this practice. However, if the same arrangement is made with a non-interest-based (Islamic) bank, then it is permissible according to Shari‘ah.
