Ruling on Apps That Generate Income by Watching Videos

What is the Shariʿah ruling on using DCMN apps? In these apps, one creates an account and can deposit amounts starting from 7,000 rupees up to an unlimited sum. On keeping 7,000 rupees in the account, one receives 250 rupees, and similarly, different amounts of additional money can be earned on various deposits. The principal amount can be withdrawn at any time. Every day, the user is required to watch approximately ten videos within the app, and these additional amounts are credited to the main account based on watching these videos. What is the Shariʿah ruling regarding this?

الجوابُ حامِدا ًو مُصلیِّا ً

The method of the app mentioned by the questioner is a type of business that has become quite common these days. However, usually the Shariʿah principles and rules are not observed in such schemes, and there is also a strong risk of fraud or loss of money. Therefore, one should not invest money in such apps without proper research.

مأخَذُ الفَتوی

کما فی الھدایۃ : قال الاجرۃ لا تجب بالعقد وتستحق باحدی معانی الثلاثۃ اما بشرط التعجیل او بالتعجیل من غیر شرط او باستیفاء معقود علیہ الخ (کتاب الاجارۃ، ج3، ص297، ط: رحمانیۃ)۔
وفی الھندیۃ: الاجر لایملک بنفس العقد ولا یجب تسلیمہ بہ عندنا (إلی قولہ) ثم الأجرۃ تستحق بأحد معان ثلاثۃ اما بشرط التعجیل أو بالتعجیل أو باستیفاء المعقود علیہ فإذا وجد أحد ھذہ الأشیاء الثلاثۃ فإنہ یملکھا کذا فی شرح الطحاوی و کما یجب الاجر باستیفاء المنافع یجب بالتمکن من استیفاء المنافع إذا کانت الاجارۃ صحیحۃ۔إلخ( کتاب الإجارۃ، الباب الثانی فی بیان أنہ متی تجب الأجرۃ، ج: 4، ص: 313، ط: مکتبہ ماجدیۃ)۔
وفی الدر المختار : (ھی) لغۃ اسم للأجرۃ وھو ما استحق علی عمل الخیر ولذا یدعی بہ یقال اعظم اللہ أجرک (تملیک نفع) مقصود من العین (بعوض) حتی لو استاجر ثیابا أو أوانی لیتجمل بھا أو دآبۃ لیجنبھا بین یدیہ أو دارا لیسکنھا أو عبدا أو غیر ذلک لا لیستعملہ بل لیظن الناس أنہ لہ فالإجارۃ فاسدۃ فی الکل ولا أجر لہ لأنھا منفعۃ غیر مقصودۃ من العین الخ
و فی الشامیۃ: تحت (قولہ مقصود من العین) أی فی الشرع ونظر العقلاء (إلی قولہ) فإنہ و إن کان مقصودا للمستأجر لکنہ لا نفع فیہ ولیس من المقاصد الشرعیۃ الخ (کتاب الاجارۃ، ج6، ص4، ط:سعید)۔
