Assalamualikum. I work for an audit firm. I would like to ask you two questions about my job. (1) The audit firm sends me to audit the accounts of different clients who have taken interest based loans. We also inspect their account to make sure that their interest based transactions are proper and compliant to the law. I would like to know if is it permissible for to receive the salary that is offered for this job. Please guide me regarding this. (2) We also audit provident fund, which is also interest based. We also audit for clients who invest in banks, mutual funds etc. Please inform us as to whether auditing provident fund is permissible or not, and whether or not the salary that we are offered for this service is Halal or Haram?
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
It must be understood that the warning for the documentation of interest that has been mentioned in Ahadith is for the one who has documented the actual contract of interest, and the one who has documented that he has witnessed it. However, if one was not involved in the contract in any way, then his documentation of the contract does not include him in this warning. With that being said, if someone was part of an interest transaction and an auditor analyses and documents his financial records, then the auditor will not be included in the warning mentioned in Ahadith, and there will be nothing wrong with his salary as per Shari'ah.
Am I entitled to my salary during the time it takes to fulfil legal documents before I begin working?
