What do the scholars say about the following issue? A person named Zaid has three daughters and he belongs to a poor family. This person wants to take his life insurance policy so that in the future there will be no obstacle in the dowry etc. of his daughters. The method of insurance is as follows: the person in question will pay six thousand rupees to the company every year for 18 years, and after 18 years the company will pay him six hundred thousand rupees. Is the insurance policy permissible according to Sharia? And is this six hundred thousand rupees halal and permissible for Zaid due to his compelled situation? Please explain the solution to the problem in the light of the Quran and Sunnah.
It should be clear that life insurance is unlawful and forbidden according to Sharia law because it involves usury, gambling and ambiguity. If someone has taken such an insurance policy, it is permissible for him to receive only the amount of money that he has paid as installments, and it is not permissible to take more than that. However, if the questioner intends to take this type of policy, he should take a Takaful policy through “Pak Qatar Family Takaful Company”, which is a valid substitute for insurance. There is no harm in this according to Sharia law and the questioner’s purpose will also be served.
