Which Place Should Be Visited First from Jeddah — Madinah or Makkah?

Can a person traveling from Pakistan or the United States to Jeddah Airport first visit Madinah, and then go from Madinah to Makkah to perform Umrah? This was our intention — JazakAllah.

الجوابُ حامِدا ًو مُصلیِّا ً

In the mentioned case, if a pilgrim intends to land in Jeddah and first go to Madinah, it is not necessary for him to put on the Ihram before landing at Jeddah Airport. He may land in Jeddah without Ihram and travel directly to Madinah, provided he does not enter the boundaries of the Haram. However, when traveling from Madinah to Makkah, it will then be necessary for him to wear the Ihram at Dhul-Hulaifah before entering Makkah.

مأخَذُ الفَتوی

کما فی الدر المختار: (وحرم تأخير الإحرام عنها) كلها (لمن) أي لآفاقي (قصد دخول مكة) يعني الحرم (ولو لحاجة) غير الحج أما لو قصد موضعا من الحل كخليص وجدة حل له مجاوزته بلا إحرام فإذا حل به التحق بأهله فله دخول مكة بلا إحرام وهو الحيلة لمريد ذلك الخ ( کتاب الحج، ج: 2، ص: 477، ط: سعید )۔
و فی رد المحتار: تحت: (قوله فله دخول مكة بلا إحرام) أي ما لم يرد نسكا كما يأتي قريبا (قوله وهو الحيلة إلخ) أي القصد المذكور وهو الحيلة لمن أراد دخول مكة بلا إحرام لكن لا تتم الحلية إلا إذا كان قصده لموضع من الحل قصدا أوليا كما قررناه ولم يرد النسك عند دخول مكة كما يأتي قريبا وسيأتي تمام الكلام على ذلك في أواخر الجنايات إن شاء الله تعالى الخ ( مطلب فی المواقیت، ج: 2، ص: 477، ط: سعید )۔
