How is it to name “Muʿaizah”

Is it permissible to name my daughter “Muʿaizah anʿam” when my wife’s name is also anʿam?

الجوابُ حامِدا ًو مُصلیِّا ً

“Muʿaizah” (with dammah on mim, fathah on ʿayn, and sukun on ya) is the diminutive form of the Arabic word “maʿz”, which means a goat; thus, Muʿaizah means a small, young, hairy goat. Therefore, although naming a child “Muʿaizah anʿam” is Shariah-wise permissible, if it is possible to change the name easily and conveniently, then it is better and preferable to change it to the name of a female Companion (Sahabiyyat) or to any other good name with a pleasant and appropriate meaning.

کما فی درر الحكام شرح غرر الأحكام: و المعز اسم جنس لا واحد له من لفظه و هي ذوات الشعر من الغنم، الواحدة شاة و هي مؤنثة و تفتح العين و تسكن و جمع الساكن أمعز و معيز مثل عبد و أعبد و عبيد و ألف المعزى للإلحاق لا للتأنيث و لهذا تنون في النكرة و تصغر على مُعَيْزٍ و لو كانت للتأنيث لم تحذف، (ج:1، ص:177، ط: دار إحياء الكتب العربية)-
